这首《爱的心语》是由卡建特（Carpenters）演唱队兄妹两人中妹妹创作演唱的爱情歌曲。实际上这个兄妹演唱队是由妹妹凯伦·卡蓬特，哥 哥理查德·卡蓬特和哥哥的同学吉·贝立斯（J·Bellis）为骨干组成。早在1969年12月，兄妹俩曾运用立体声多轨重复录音技术录制了甲壳虫乐队的 一首歌《Ticket To Ride》，开始引起人们的注意。哥哥理查德唱歌兼琴手，并制作和创作歌曲，由于妹妹凯伦的歌声更受欢迎，理查德甘愿为妹妹当配角。实际上哥哥多才多艺， 即制作、创作、又演唱歌曲。对我国的广大音乐爱者来说，似乎更容易接受妹妹凯伦，因为她动听的歌喉、优美的曲调和旋律还有她不幸的早逝，都更能引起人们的 爱怜。

1994年，当卡蓬特演唱队组建近25周年时，为了纪念兄妹乐队，许多目前热门前卫摇滚乐队重新唱他们的著名作品，并出版专辑《如果我是卡蓬特》（If I Were Carpenters）。A＆M唱片公司也出版了他们的精选专辑《苍翠》。
