Two more swimming medals for Australia. James Magnussen has won silver in the 100 meters freestyle. Now he came in just one one hundreth of a second behind America's Nathan Adrian. And despite intense pressure as the favourite, Magnusson said he'd done everything he could and had no regrets. And the Aussie Women's team relay have also won the 4 by 100m relay. 
Syria's President Bashar al-Assad says the fate of the nation depends on the battle for Aleppo. In an open letter to the Syrian army, he's called on troops to redouble their offensive against rebel forces. Both are claiming to thave made gains as fighting rages for a second week. 
The drinks industry's been accused of not taking seriously its promise to put health warnings on beer and spirits. A year after the drinkwise labelling initiative was launched. It's claimed that only one in six products actually carry the warnings. 
An independent review of Labor's workplace relations laws will be released today. Unions business groups and politicians have all had a say on the impact of the fair work act, one of labor's key perorms in government. 
And Defence Minister Stephen Smith has ruled out hosting a U.S. military base in Perth. A report prepared for the U.S. Defence Department has raised the idea of basing an American nuclear aircraft carrier at HMAS stirling. Mr. Smith says report doesn't represent American government policy.
