"We don't do this everyday."
Animal Control officer Jerry Cloutier responded to the unusual call of the Chateral marketplace. A mother duck and her family of chicks in a parking lot, Walt Dunnells was the first to spot the birds.
I was in the restaurant eating here, and I saw this mother duck with 8 or 9 little ones behind her crossing this busy street. I said, Oh my God.
With the help of two other people, Dunnells saved the ducks from dangerous traffic, and put them under his car and out of the blazing sun.
We gave them some French fries and some water, and they settled down, they drank, they were very thirsty.
But two of the fowl 1 fell into the storm drain, police were called in for the rescue and their plan sounded simple.
"Try and get Mama, Mama is gonna be the one that brings all the rest of them over to her."
"There you go, come here."
After a few tries, mama duck was scooped 2 up, and her offspring soon followed, Animal Control plucked the two chicks from the sewer 3, (Yeah~!) and the family was reunited.
"Come here."
They were brought to their new home, this quiet pond, at Cedar 4 Hill Cemetery 5 where Catharine Hepburn and other rich and famous are buried, and where a majestic 6 crane stands guard.
