When Lauren Nelson of Oklahoma was crowned Miss America 2007, she dedicated 1 her community service platform to keeping children safe on the internet. Nelson has a very personal reason for advocating safe web browser 2.
When I was 13 years old, I was chatting online, uh, with a group of girl friends that I sleep over，very innocent in a chat room that we knew people in, but we were also chatting with people we didn't know，which was our first mistake. We were approached by a man, and he asked us the question ASL, which means age, sex, location, and we gave him the information, so immediately, he knew, who we were, where we were, how old we were, which is so dangerous and one, and a situation that lots of kids get into. But about a week later, he got back into correspondence with my friends, sending inappropriate pictures of himself, which then that's when we alerted our parents.
Today, Nelson is the centerpiece of the Miss America kids-safe web browser new application designed to help protect children from the dangers of on-line predators 3 and inappropriate content.
I actually have an animated 4 character that browses 5 the web with kids, and I pop up and give random 6 internet safety tips, parents also have full control of the included list of the websites. There are also, there're prescreened appropriate websites that children's education network has come up with, but parents have full control to add or to delete websites from that list,also if kids try to access websites that's not on the list, my character pops up and explains that they have to have mum or dad access that website for them to go to.
While technology, it like the new browser is stepping up to tackle the problem of inappropriate content, Nelson says parents need to do their part as well.
Besides from installing the browser which is the best way to do it, and it's so easy and the software is free, it’s important to be involved what your kids are doing online, ask questions, make it a conversation not an interrogation ,so your kids feel like that light of communication is open.
