They seem to have the book smarts.
"I am a finance and CPA accounting 1 major ".
But maybe not enough to do real-life tasks , like calculate a 15% tip on a $20 meal.
"I guess it will be around $12 or $13?"
Sorry, wrong. Let's try it again.
"$3? "

Well, most students we surveyed didn't in fact to get it right. A new study by American Institutes For Research found that more than half of 4-year-college students and nearly 75% of 2-year-college students lack the ability to figure out a tip , compare prices or even balance a checkbook.

"There's been an assumption out there that college students are graduating with a certain level of, of what we would expect proficient 2 skills. Um, in this study, it really shows that some of those assumptions may not be correct. "

Graduates fared better when they came to filling out job applications and reading newspapers. But the problem researchers say is , the majority of them can't comprehend what they just read. Some students say they are not surprised by the results and add colleges need to do more to better prepare them.

"It's irresponsible and negligent 3 for colleges to be able to, to put their name /, their, their university on people's degrees and send these people to workforce 4 when they're unprepared and unskilled. "

"They could have a class like how to do basic things. "

A simple solution: life's little lessons to help educate America's future in and out of the classroom.
