Delegates from the People's Liberation Army say military preparedness should be enhanced against threats to national sovereignty. They echoed Hu Jintao's report to the CPC National Congress in their group discussion.
The PLA delegates highly commended the report by Hu Jintao. They say it's an encouraging action plan both to the people and to the Army.
The delegates say it's the Party's political statement and guide to the future. The report raised the new mission and requirements for national defense 1 and a military buildup.
They emphasized the importance of deepening research into new trends in military affairs worldwide. They also vowed 2 to continue working to create a high tech armed forces. Other issues discussed by the delegates were improving battle effectiveness and better management of the armed forces.
The delegates agreed the PLA should build a military that conforms to the interests of the country's security and development. This is to achieve the goal of making the armed forces powerful while building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
In his report, Hu Jintao said the Communist Party must exercise absolute leadership over the armed forces. He calls for a revolution in military affairs with Chinese characteristics so the armed forces will be further modernized 3 and standardized 4 through science and technology. Hu vowed the army is determined 5 to safeguard China's sovereignty, security and territorial 6 integrity and help maintain world peace.
