Every irritating fault in another person has a long history behind it. They have become like this because of flaws in their development, which they did not choose for themselves. They were shaped by troubles—troubles which we cannot see but which we know must exist.
每一个在他人身上令人感到厌烦的行为背后都有一段历史。他们之所以变成这样子，是因为在他们的发展过程中有些身不由己的缺陷，这些缺陷是经历问题而形成的，我们虽然无法看见那过程，但是却能知道问题的存在。
