The government announced our new ambassador to the United States will be Mike Moore. This is an interesting choice as Mike Moore was a Labour Party MP and also, very briefly 1, the Prime Minister in 1990. The present government is a National government. However, Mike Moore is a good choice because he was head of the World Trade Organisation 2 (WTO) from 1999 to 2002. He said in his new position, he will work towards more free trade between New Zealand and the US. He doesn’t think it will be a problem working for a National government.
He starts his new job in the middle of the year.
