Todd: Do you like the beach?
 
Richard: I love the beach.
 
Todd: OK. When, when do you go to the beach?
 
Richard: So in the summer I like to go with my family and, yeah, in the summer.
 
Todd: OK. Is there a beach near your home?
 
Richard: No, do you mean in Japan or in England?
 
Todd: In Japan.
 
Richard: In Japan, we have to drive a long way to go to the beach.
 
Todd: Oh!
 
Richard: But I can go to the beach in Chiba. Kujuukurihama, or to the Izu Pennisula.
 
Todd: OK. And what do you do at the beach?
 
Richard: OK. We enjoy swimming in the sea and boating 1 and just making sand castles with my son.
 
Todd: OK. Ooh! Sand castles! Nice! What do you take to the beach?
 
Richard: Beach towel, very important, something to put on the sand to try to stop the sand from getting into everything.
 
Todd: OK. And what..
 
Richard: Bucket 2 and spade 3.
 
Todd: But..what?
 
Richard: Bucket and spade.

near
 
Is there a beach near your home?
 
If a place is "near" your home then it is close to where you live or not a far distance.   Notice the following:
 
Now there is a supermarket really near my house.
You live near my grandmother.

We enjoy boating.
 
A "boat" is a very small ship for going on the water.  "Boating" is the action of going on a boat and into a lake, river or ocean.  Notice the following:
 
Have you ever been boating on the ocean?
We were boating the whole day with my family.

Just making sand castles with my son.
 
"Sand castles" are small castles or houses made with sand, and usually constructed on the beach or in a sandbox.  Notice the following:
 
The big waves destroyed my sand castle.

To stop the sand from getting into everything.
 
If sand "gets into" something it enters a place it is not intended to be, for example, in a child's ears.  Notice the following:

You need a bucket and spade to make sand castles.
 
A "bucket" is a container with a handle that is used to hold liquids or solids 4.  A "spade" is a small shovel 5, which is used to dig 6 in the ground.  Notice the following:
