 November 21st, 1877 Thomas Edison announces the invention of the phonograph, after testing the device by reciting a nursery rhyme. Mary had a little lamb, whose fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go1973,President Richard Nixon's attorney reveals a White House tape recording 1 related to the Watergate scandal contains an 18-and-a-half minute gap. Experts who later study the damaged tape find evidence of several deliberate erasures. Nixon resigns from office the following year.


2001,In a case that baffles investigators 2, Ottilie Lundgren, a 94-year-old woman in Connecticut, dies of inhalation anthrax. She's the fifth and final victim of the anthrax scare following the September 11th attacks. 1985,Jonathan Pollard, a former U.S. Navy  intelligence analyst 3, is arrested, accused of spying for Israel. Pollard later pleads guilty and is sentenced to life in prison.
And 1934,In New York, the Cole Porter musical “Anything Goes”, starring Ethel Merman, opens on Broadway. Today in History, November 21st, Shelley Smith, the Associated Press.
