The visiting Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Boston Americans 7-3, but the Americans, now known as the Boston Red Sox, win the best of 9 game series.
1962, Johnny Carson debuts 3 as the host of NBC’s “The Tonight Show”. He’s reigned 4 as TV’s king of late night last for nearly 30 years.
And 1971, Walt Disney World, home of the magic kingdom Epcot and more, opens in Orlando, Florida.
