And 1973,What's billed as the “Battle of the Sexes” takes place at the Houston Astrodome. That's where tennis star Billie Jean King defeats Bobby Riggs in straight sets. Also that same year, singer and songwriter Jim Croce dies in a plane crash near Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was 30 years old.
