WikiLeaks founder 1 Julian Assange has spoken out against the British government whom he says are "in violation 2 of international law" for not allowing him the status of a political refugee.
Assange is currently taking refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy to avoid extradition 3 to Sweden, who want to question him over allegations of rape 4 and molestation 5.
Assange denies the allegations against him, but fears he will be sent to the US if he is extradited to Sweden.
He says Sweden has refused to communicate with him.
"They (Swedish prosecutors) refuse to come to the United Kingdom to speak to me, they refuse to take a statement, they refuse to speak on the telephone, they refuse to use all the normal EU and Swedish policy to speak to me, to take my statement etc. And they also refuse to explain why, they will not do that."
Ecuadorean president Rafael Correa has added his weight to the situation by accusing the UK of a severe violation of human rights.
"If we talk so much about human rights, what's a worse attack in human rights than having a person unable to leave an embassy when the respective state (Ecuador) has given political asylum 6? And that's a lack of consideration for the state giving political asylum."
Assange, who is an Australian citizen, incensed 7 US government officials by publishing hundreds of thousands of secret US diplomatic cables and Iraq and Afghan war dispatches in 2010.
Since then the US Department of Justice has been investigating WikiLeaks.
