Books afford us knowledge.书本给我们学问。
afford是个动词，一般只买得起。但上句中的afford是指提供和给予的意思。又例如：
Dancing affords us pleasure.跳舞给我们带来快乐。
afford表示买得起的意思时要注意它的使用，它一般要和表示能够的情态动词或动词短语连用，例如一般和can`could`be able to等。
I cannot afford that car.我买不起那辆车。
afford还指受的起...的后果，不过很多时候都用在否定句中。
We cannot afford missing 1 the train.我们承受不起赶不上火车的后果。
I cannot afford losing this competition.我输不起这场比赛。
