《窈窕淑女》是一部不朽的音乐剧，它最成功的地方在于其中的歌曲建立起主角人物鲜明的性格和彼此间的关系，于1953年3月15日首演于纽约马克赫林格剧院，在百老汇连演了近10年，共上演2717场，成为50年代最为脍炙人口的音乐剧。《窈窕淑女》的唱片销量高达500万张，还获得包括最佳音乐剧奖在内的托尼奖6项大奖和3项提名。剧本的原著来自于萧伯纳1914年的戏剧《皮格马利翁》，当初大文豪创作时就是想以一种讽刺的眼光讲述一个“灰姑娘”的故事。
