Maarja，全名Maarja Liis Ilus1980年12月24日出生于爱沙尼亚首都塔林，她也是爱沙尼亚最成功的女歌手。8岁学习钢琴，从小受到正统音乐培训。
1996年才15岁的她参加了欧洲歌曲大赛爱沙尼亚的国家歌曲选拔大赛，比赛中她和60多岁的爱沙尼亚老牌歌手Ivo Linna凭借一曲"Kaelakee hääl"夺得冠军，并代表爱沙尼亚参加了在挪威首都奥斯陆第41届欧洲电视歌曲大赛，最后获得第5名。次年她单独参加了爱沙尼亚的歌曲大赛，以一首"Keelatud maa"再次夺冠。
从1996年的首张同名专辑开始，Maarja已经功发行了13张个人专辑，在东欧，北欧，甚至亚洲都有很高的知名度(她的多张专辑曾在日本发行)。
