几乎所有的人都会将挪威清新组合Kings of Convenience与六十年代美国的民谣英雄Simon & Garfunkel相比较，只不过来自挪威的Erik和Erlend兄弟在这个世纪才出现。已经发表过很多成功作品的Kings of Convenience推出的全新专辑《Riot on an Empty Street》仍延续了以往的风格，依旧是Indie Pop大唱主调。
2001年的首张专辑《寂静是新的喧嚣》，使自在之王在新千年里以Simon and Garfunkel似的音乐理念赢得了众多喝彩。自在之王温和文雅的轻柔民谣就像许多来自北欧的清新乐风一样，它们是那么简洁、直入心灵，就像直接从内心凝练出的音符从吉他上流淌出来。
《沉溺在空旷的大街上》里的十二首歌曲在Badly Drawn 2 Boy和Paul Heaton的风格之间波动，整张制作精巧，蕴涵着一股甜蜜的忧愁。主唱在每个音节的发音和间歇中都非常精准的保持协调。与上一张专辑不同的是，新专辑中有两首歌曲出现了女声，这个声音来自加拿大独立乐团Broken Social Scene的女歌手Leslie Feist。
