 March 16th, 1968. The My Lai Massacre 1 takes place during the Vietnam War. US troops under the command of Lieutenant 2 William Cally Jr. kill hundreds of unarmed civilians 3 in the village of My Lai. High ranking army officers initially 4 cover up the incident, but former soldiers make it public. Cally is accused of directing the killings 5 and gets life in prison, but is later paroled. 1985. Terry Anderson, chief Middle East correspondent for the Associated Press, is abducted 6 in Lebanese capital Beirut. AP photographer Donald Miles saw it happen. “When I saw them pull him into a car. I tried to advance towards one of these gunmen. He waved his pistol at me as it to go away.” Anderson is freed more than 6 and half years later, William Burkley, the CIA station chief in Beirut, kidnapped on the same day as Anderson a year earlier, dies in captivity 7. 1926. Rocket science pioneer Robert Goddard successfully tests the first liquid-fueled rocket in Auburn, Massachusetts. And finally, also that same year. “Like the hopes, that was dashed, when the star knock it cry, ahahaha…”
