Victor: Hi, Jane. Where are you off to?
Jane: Oh, I'm going to the library to study for midterms.
Victor: What's all the rush? Midterms start in three weeks. You've got plenty of time.
Jane: I know. This time I don't want to take any test cold. I don't worry about the English exam. I think I can do well on the math exam. But American history is my weakest subject. The teacher failed me on the history exam last time. There was a section on the Civil War, and that's the chapter in the book that I studied the least. This time I don't want to put it off until the last minute.
Victor: You're right. I should also start to study. The reading load is what gives me the headache. Our history professor usually bases almost all his questions on class lectures, so studying the notes will help. Can we exchange our notes?
Jane: Not a bad idea. Here you are. But I'm afraid it's hard for you to understand what I've jotted 1 down.
Victor: Doesn't matter. I'll give it a shot 2. Let's head for the library now.
Exercise: Turn either the first or the second mini-dialogue into ONE descriptive narrative 3. Use only indirect 4 speech.
