September 24th, 1976, newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst is sentenced to 7 years in prison for taking part in a bank robbery with her kidnapers. She serves nearly 2 years before President Jimmy Carter commutes 1 her sentence. In 2001, President Bill Clinton pardons Hearst.
1896, F. Scott Fitzgerald, author of the Jazz Age Novel-The Great Gatsby, is born in St. Paul, Minnesota.
1968, 60 MINUTES,the pioneering TV newsmagazine, premieres on CBS, hosted by Mike Wallace and Harry 2 Reasoner.
1957, the Brooklyn Dodgers 3 play their last game in New York, shutting out the Pittsburgh Pirates at Ebbets Field. The following season the Dodgers moves to Los Angeles while the New York Giants relocates to San Francisco.
1936, “Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.” Jim, Henson, the creator of the Muppets from Kermit the Frog to Sesame Street, is born in Greenville, Mississippi.
And 1991, Theodor Seuss Geisel, the children’s writer and cartoonist, better known as Dr. Seuss, dies in La Jolla, California. He was 87.
