First up, more than a thousand emergency workers are in the city of Joplin, Missouri right now. And these images give you an idea why. A tornado 3 one of the deadliest in U.S. history raped 4 though town on Sunday night, at least 116 people are killed, and the emergency workers who were from four different states are trying to find survivors 6. This tornado and the damage that left behind were extreme. An official said the twister was at its biggest point, three quarters of a mile wide, homes, business all left in ruins, Joplin’s high school was raped a part. The senior class had just finished their graduation ceremonies at a nearby university when the storm hit. The high school’s principle said it looked like a bomb having gone off. One survivor 5 said the tornado started as a low roar, and then, quote, “got louder and louder until it sounded like fifty semitrucks going about 70 miles per hour, outside the front door.”

Randy K has more near the incredible impact of this tornado and the reaction of some of the people who lived through with it.

“Oh my gosh, oh my gosh.”

This is what the massive tornado looked like. It was bearing down on Joplin, Missouri. But listen to this. This is what it sounded like from inside a convenient store, where terrified customs rolled out the storm, jammed inside the dark refrigerated store room. We talked to one of those, who was grained inside.

“There were about twenty people in the back. I am handled down, and everyone was kind of deciding what to do. All of a sudden, the glass on the front of the building just got sucked out, completely blow out, and so my buddy 7 who was with me had the idea we should all like run as fast as we can in getting in that cooler.”

Those people inside thankful to be alive.

“Basically the only thing that last standing 8 was the cooler that we were in.”

In a matter of moment, the tornado was gone. In a flash, lives changed.

“There was several miles later on the side. Uh, there were several upon on the ground where people laid over, several people upon the banks, they were hurt, bleeding, nearly everyone was wounded, I guess. ”

One of the hardest hit places, the hospital.

“Every window looks to be blown out. There are sprigs hanging out of the windows. There were just cars stuck all over the parking mile.”

The power of the storm sent the X-rays fly. They were found as far as 70 miles away. The tornado was at least half a mile wide, and hit residential 9 areas and business alike including the city’s home depot 10 and Wal-Mart.

I don’t think you can single out that any one area the entire path of the tornado that took to town and it has just basically devastated 11 the central portion in Joplin.

Not even the rescuers themselves were expelled, also hit the fire chief’s home.

“Uh, it’s been destroyed.”
