Gretchen Wilson是美国新近涌现出的乡村音乐新星，虽然是一位新人，但是Gretchen Wilson却是典型的大器晚成。Gretchen Wilson于1973年6月26日出生在美国伊利诺伊州乡下的Pocahontas，当她出生时，她的母亲只有16岁。由于家庭的原因，Gretchen Wilson从两岁的时候就开始和家庭一起颠沛流离，居无定所。Gretchen Wilson的父亲会弹吉他，还拥有一直旅行乐队，但是父亲却从来没有给她和母亲带来什么就不见了。Gretchen Wilson只受过8年级的教育，在与母亲相依为命多年之后，14、5岁的Gretchen Wilson就已经开始照料吧台打工。不过即使是在这时候，喜欢唱歌的Gretchen Wilson也依然坚持每晚都去卡拉OK机那练习唱歌，并且随着她对音乐兴趣的加深，她也产生了离开家乡去寻找更大发展的想法。
1996年，Gretchen Wilson来到了美国乡村音乐的圣城Nashville。但是在Nashville这个乡村音乐大都会里，23岁且毫无名气和竞争力的Gretchen Wilson四处碰壁，甚至遭到冷嘲热讽。Gretchen Wilson在接下来的几年时间里毫无所得，不得不又开始了在吧台的工作，而此时的她早已不年轻了。
几年之后，Gretchen Wilson已经拥有了一个女儿，不得志的Gretchen Wilson在多年酒吧工作之后终于得到了机会，一个周五的晚上，当她和往常一样与酒吧的小乐队一起演唱的时候，她的歌声被词曲作者兼歌手、并无名气的Big & Rich二人组的两名成员Big Kenny和John Rich所注意，当John Rich询问她有没有合同的时候，郁闷的Gretchen Wilson只是随手给了John Rich一张名片和几张自己录制的样带。几个月后，依旧对前景失去信心的Gretchen Wilson勉强同意跟着John Rich一起从事音乐，直到这时候Gretchen Wilson才知道John Rich是一名乡村音乐人。
在John Rich的引荐下，Gretchen Wilson开始结识一些乡村音乐人，并且时常帮助他们录制样片，并且第一次熟悉了Nashville的音乐工作环境。经过与这些音乐的人接触以及和他们一起在夜总会里演出之后，Gretchen Wilson终于得到了唱片公司的垂青，并且是大唱片公司——Sony Music Nashville唱片公司。2004年初，在首先发行了一支单曲《Redneck Woman》之后，2004年5月11日，她的首张个人专辑《Here for the Party》正式发行。
《Here for the Party》取得了巨大的成功，一路畅销并且得到评论界的认可，Gretchen Wilson成为2004年美国乡村音乐最大的发现，也帮助她连摘格莱美最佳乡村女歌手奖等众多大奖，在乡村音乐奖评选中也是收获颇丰。2005年9月27日，Gretchen Wilson发行了个人第二张专辑《All Jacked Up》续写自己乡村黑马的出色表现 。
