Antonio Banderas plays Luis, a wealthy coffee merchant looking for love. He corresponds with a mail-order bride who describes herself as "plain",but is pleasantly surprised to meet gorgeous Julia (Angelina Jolie) instead. After Luis's initial delight, he finds that his enigmatic new bride brings trouble. The newlyweds become entangled 5 in desire, obsession 6, and revenge in a story containing many dark twists and turns.

Audiences have loved movies that keep them on the edge of their seats since the all-time master of thrillers 7, Alfred Hitchcock, made his first film in 1925. Designed to elicit 8 intense excitement and nerve-racking tension, thrillers create suspense 3 by placing the protagonist 9 in a perilous 10 situation from which escape seems impossible. The main character is often unknowingly lured 11 into this potentially lethal 12 predicament by a seductive femme fatale, as in Original Sin.
