  When her love beckons 1 you, follow him, though his ways are hard andsteep. And when his wings enfold you, yield to him, though the swordhidden among his pinions 2 may wound you. And when he speaks to you,believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreams as the northwind lays waste the garden.
  For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for yourgrowth so is he for your pruning 3. Even as he ascends 4 to your height andcaresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, so shall hedescend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.
  But if, in your fear, you would seek only love’s peace and love’spleasure, then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness andpass out of love’s threshing-floor, into the seasonless world where youshall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all ofyourtears. Love gives naught 5 but itself and takes naught but from itself.Love possesses not, nor would it be possessed 6, for love is sufficientunto love.
  Love has no other desire but to fulfill 7 itself. But if you love and have desires, let these be your desires:
  To melt and be like a running brook 8 that sings its melody to the night.
  To know the pain of too much tenderness.
  To be wounded by your own understanding of love.
  And to bleed willingly and joyfully 9.
  To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
  To rest at the noon hour and meditate 10 love’s ecstasy 11;
  To return home at eventide with gratitude 12;
  And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart.
  清晨,带着一颗生翼的心醒来,感谢又一个充满爱的日子;
  午休,沉思爱的心醉神怡;
  黄昏,带着感激归家;
